Oblivion (2013)
Not just another effects-laden science fiction entry, this film strives to achieve more, and it almost succeeds. Tom Cruise is fine as a guardian protecting Earth’s remaining resources from the last vestiges of an invading alien force, and as the story unfolds, so too does the mystery of the circumstances. The interesting story is doled out in bits and pieces, but too often, the audience is able to jump ahead. Decent, but not compelling, with a satisfying but not unexpected resolution.
