The Lovely Bones (2009)
Adapted from Alice Sebold’s bestselling novel, this film boasts an impressive cast, director, and screenwriters, and yet it fails to amount to much. Told from the point of view of a murdered teenage girl, the tale should evoke some emotion or drama along the way, and yet it merely hovers, making little impression. The cinematography stands out, as does Rose McIver as the dead girl’s sister, and Saoirse Ronan satisfies as the protagonist, but the two-plus hours of story feel empty.
