Uncut Gems (2019)
With a running time of two hours, fifteen minutes, Uncut Gems does indeed feel uncut, although the primary problem with the film isn’t so much its length as that it seems far longer. Adam Sandler gives a solid dramatic performance as New York City jeweler Howard Ratner, fully embodying the egocentric and reprobate gambler as he looks to make a big score in the easiest possible way. Unfortunately, the screenplay and direction reveal no changes to his character; he never grows or devolves, but simply remains the same, which produces a ponderous film that never really advances past its setup.
