Maudie (2016)
This gem of an independent film tells the story of Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis (née Dowley). Set in a rural community of Nova Scotia in the middle decades of the twentieth century, the story traces the meeting and marriage of Ms. Dowley to Everett Lewis, a local fish peddler. Despite birth defects and rheumatoid arthritis, and a life spent in poverty, Maud rose to national prominence as an artist.
