Easy Rider (1969)
This film holds up surprisingly well, given not only its age, but the era in which it was produced. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper are pitch-perfect as a pair of free spirits who, after making a big score selling drugs, take to the road on a motorcycle trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans, ostensibly for Mardi Gras. Filled with numerous classic rock tunes and populated with beautiful photography, the story takes its time, but ultimately provides interesting and important observations that speak to life in modern American society. Occasionally startling and always involving, Easy Rider deserves its place as a contemporary classic.
